Crunchbang Linux dot org\" href=\"http:\/\/crunchbanglinux.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Crunchbang<\/a>, and <a title=\"ubuntu Linux\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ubuntu.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ubuntu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Why go to distrowatch?\u00a0 It&#8217;s an easy name to type into a web browser.\u00a0 It lets you search by distribution name and takes you to the &#8220;project page&#8221; for that distro\u2014where you can get details about the distro\u2014such as country of origin, which releases\/editions are available, what software\/applications are included, the default desktop manager, and more.<\/p>\n<p>When your download is complete, you should verify your download<strong> before you burn the .iso file<\/strong> to a CD or DVD.\u00a0 <strong>Verification<\/strong> is the process where you compare the md5 hash of your downloaded .iso with the expected md5 hash published at the website where you downloaded the .iso from.<\/p>\n<p>There are a few ways to verify a .iso file.\u00a0 In linux, issue the command <strong>md5sum<\/strong> <em>[path-to-iso-file]<\/em> and press <strong>ENTER<\/strong>.\u00a0 For Mac OS-X, <a title=\"Mac OS-X MD5 Sum verification\" href=\"https:\/\/help.ubuntu.com\/community\/HowToMD5SUM#MD5SUM%20on%20Mac%20OS%20X\" target=\"_blank\">follow these instructions<\/a>.\u00a0 Lastly, in MS Windows, <a title=\"Verify MD5 Sum in Windows\" href=\"https:\/\/help.ubuntu.com\/community\/HowToMD5SUM#MD5SUM%20on%20Windows\" target=\"_blank\">follow these instructions<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>After verifying the download, burn the .iso to a CD\/DVD.\u00a0 Just make sure that you&#8217;re burning a &#8220;bootable iso image&#8221; (which is different than creating a data CD that includes the .iso file).\u00a0 Most of the good burning software will have the option to &#8220;burn an image to disk&#8221;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Linux Operating systems are available as iso files for download.
